Waltham Philharmonic launches its 2024-2025 season this month

The season opens Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. at Government Center with works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Jean Sibelius and Alan Hovhaness.

The Waltham Philharmonic Orchestra opens its 2024-2025 season later this month, kicking off its 40th anniversary year.

The season opens Oct. 27 at 3 p.m. at Government Center with works by Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Jean Sibelius and Alan Hovhaness. 

Michael Korn leads the orchestra. Music director since 2009, Korn won the 2016 American Prize in Orchestral Programming – Community Orchestra Division for his work with WPO and he has conducted at prestigious venues including Carnegie Hall in New York City and Boston’s Symphony Hall.

Sophie Tung, a senior at Phillips Academy Andover, will be the violin soloist. Tung began violin at age 4 and studies with Lynn Chang. She is a member of the Hong Kong Children’s Symphony Orchestra and Phillips Academy orchestras.

Future concerts are scheduled for Dec. 8, March 30 and May 10.

The non-audition orchestra currently has openings in the horn, bassoon and string sections. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7:15 p.m. at Government Center, 119 School St.
