Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (MWRA) crews continue to make progress constructing a new 36-inch water main along Lexington Street north of Brookway Road.
Work crews also are continuing their work installing a new sewer line and manholes on Lexington Street north of Trapelo Road.
They’ll be working during the upcoming week.
Crews at both locations are expected to work a normal day schedule Monday and Tuesday, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Crews will work a half day Wednesday, finishing at noon.
However, work each day may extend past those hours as needed.
Crews will be off on Thursday and Friday.
Work scheduled for the week includes the installation of a blow-off valve manhole near the Lexington Street and Lake Street intersection. The second crew will focus on the installation of the sewer line and manholes along Lexington Street north of Trapelo Road.
There potentially may be slight delays while alternating traffic traverses through the construction areas.
The MWRA asks all motorists to adhere to police details directing traffic through the work zone.
The contractor working on this MWRA project expects crews to be off during the week of Christmas and the week of New Year’s Day (Dec. 21, 2024, through Jan. 5, 2025) to enable easier travel through the area during the holiday weeks.
Furthermore, the MWRA, its contractor and the City of Waltham are reviewing an alternate traffic pattern plan for work near Lionel Avenue to alleviate traffic impacts near the Wal-Lex Plaza. This will allow two-way traffic to be maintained while work is ongoing.
The alternate plan will require a traffic lane to encroach onto the southbound sidewalk area through the work zone; however, pedestrians will be provided with a bypass route around the site.
Note that all businesses within the Wal-Lex Plaza remain open while contraction is underway.
More information on the project can be found here.
