A recent Police Department investigation led to the arrest of a Waltham resident for animal cruelty.

According to a police statement, officers on Jan. 15 responded to a report from a property manager about a deceased dog at a Charles Street apartment. Upon arrival, police determined that the dog and apartment had been abandoned by the tenant.

A subsequent necropsy determined that the animal had not been given proper amounts of food and water.

An arrest warrant for animal cruelty was then issued for Ricardo Val, 40, of 210 Charles St., Waltham, who was located and arrested by officers on Jan. 31.
