Public Safety Watch: Waltham man arrested on multiple drug charges
A Waltham man was arrested on multiple drug charges last week, following a police search.
According to a police spokesperson, on Feb. 26, police executed a search warrant at the home of Robert Thompson, 47, of 60 Prospect St., for narcotics.
Police reported that they then saw Thompson attempting to flee the property on foot as police were conducting the search.
Police caught and arrested Thompson, alleging that Thompson attempted to dispose of what officers believed to be baggies of cocaine while trying to flee. Officers said they also found marijuana and cocaine with paraphernalia related to distribution during their search.
Thompson was arrested and charged with possession of a class D drug with the intent to distribute, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and two counts of possession of a class B drug with the intent to distribute.
Cambridge man arrested in connection to Fernald property break-in
Police arrested a man in connection with a break-in at the Fernald property after officers on patrol spotted the suspect.
According to police records, officers on patrol in the Bentley University area near 400 Beaver St. on Feb. 21 recognized James Mazzola, 49, homeless, of Cambridge, and determined he had active arrest warrants.
Officers searched Mazzola and found what they believed to be methamphetamine and multiple tools connected to a prior break-in at the abandoned Fernald property.
Mazzola was arrested and charged with possession of a class B drug and possession of a burglarious instrument. He was also charged on warrants for two counts of larceny under $1,200, misdemeanor breaking and entering, and receiving stolen property under $1,200. He was additionally charged with warrants for one count each of possession of a class B drug and attempting to commit a crime.

A summary of additional police activity from Feb. 20 to Feb. 27 is as follows:
On Feb. 20 at 4:26 p.m., police responded to a report of an argument at Ramsay’s Towing at 152 Prospect St. A customer was arguing with an employee about a car being towed. Officers defused the situation.
At 8:04 p.m. police responded to a report of possible shots being fired in the area of Livingstone Lane. Officers spoke to multiple residents in the area and determined that the call was unfounded.
On Feb. 21 at 3:20 p.m., police responded to a report of shoplifting at Hannaford supermarket at 55 Russell St. An employee witnessed a customer shoplifting from the store. It was determined that the customer had previously stolen a large amount of detergent worth more than $600 from the store over a few weeks. The matter is under investigation.
At 4:04 p.m. police responded to a report of shoplifting at Sumo Liquors at 1093 Lexington St. A manager witnessed a customer walk out of the store with an 18-pack of beer without paying. The manager declined to press charges, but the individual was banned from the store.
On Feb. 22 at 3:22 a.m., police responded to a report of a disruptive group of people at the Hyatt House hotel at 54 Fourth Ave. Upon arrival, an individual was determined to be heavily intoxicated. For safety reasons, police placed the individual into protective custody.
At 11:17 a.m. police responded to a report of a motor vehicle hit and run at 39 Vernon St. The caller reported that a parked vehicle had been damaged after being parked overnight. Upon review of camera footage, it was determined that the vehicle was struck by a box truck. A report was filed, and the matter is under investigation.
At 7:18 p.m. a caller reported that two vehicles were racing near the intersection of Crescent Street and Woerd Avenue. Officers were dispatched to the area and were unable to locate the vehicles.
On Feb. 23 at 7:32 p.m., police responded to a report of an unwanted individual at the Hannaford supermarket at 55 Russell St. A customer had multiple dogs running loose through the store. Once police arrived, the customer left without any issues.
On Feb. 24 at 8:08 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at 175 Wyman Street. A vehicle had been rear-ended after coming off the highway. The victim was transported to a hospital for minor injuries. The other operator was cited for failure to use care while operating a motor vehicle.
Steven Schofield, 57, of 118 Hammond St., Waltham, was arrested and charged at 4:22 p.m. on warrants for larceny over $1,200, felony daytime breaking and entering, destruction of property over $1,200, breaking glass in a building, larceny from a building and conspiracy to commit a crime.
On Feb. 25 at 8:42 p.m., police responded to a report of an animal problem at a residence on Cherry Street. The caller reported finding bats in the residence’s attic. The bats could not be located.
Marco Aragon-Gonzalez, 31, of 8 Highland St., Waltham, was arrested and charged at 9:03 p.m. with possession of a class C drug and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
On Feb. 26 Elder Castillo-Sanchez was arrested and charged at 5:58 p.m. on warrants for four counts of shoplifting by asportation (defined as the intentional act of taking an item from a store without paying). He was also charged on warrants for trespassing, unlawful deactivation of an antitheft device and shoplifting merchandise worth at least $250.
On Feb. 27 at 1:36 a.m., an officer observed an unregistered vehicle parked along Adams Street. The vehicle was towed from the area.
