2025 Youth Public Safety Academy registration opens at 9 a.m. March 19

The Youth Public Safety Academy (YPSA) is an educational and affordable summer program designed to introduce young people to role models in public safety, including sheriff’s officers and local police, firefighters and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel. The program also teaches valuable life and safety lessons.
The program is open to all children ages 8 to 12 living in Middlesex County. Older children also have the opportunity to participate as counselors-in-training. The YPSA is held at the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office (MSO) Training Academy in Chelmsford and consists of five one-week camps.
YPSA cadets participate in a series of activities throughout the camp, such as visiting with the local police and fire officials on community day and learning about fire safety hazards in a fire safety trailer. Cadets also learn how to make evacuation plans for emergencies and participate in exercises designed to demonstrate the power and importance of teamwork during a visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Billerica.
Registration is $100 per child per week and includes transportation to and from designated bus stops; daily breakfast, lunch and snacks; and a graduation ceremony held each Friday.
Participants are not required to reside in communities with a designated bus stop, but they will be picked up and dropped off at these locations.
Bus stop locations for 2025 will be in the following communities:
- July 7 – 11: Chelmsford, Lowell, Tewksbury and Wilmington
