Murphy Federal Record Center on list of federal buildings under consideration for sale

The Frederick C. Murphy Federal Records Center, located at 380 Trapelo Road, Waltham, was on a list of “non-core” federal buildings under consideration for sale earlier this month.
The initial list had 440 buildings on it, including nine in Massachusetts.
The list has since been taken down from the General Services Administration website. The GSA oversees the real estate actions of federal agencies, including constructing, managing and leasing space in the buildings.
Waltham Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy said she hasn’t been contacted about the potential sale.
Rep. Thomas M. Stanley did not know about the sale when contacted earlier this month. U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark’s office did not respond with additional information.
According to the center’s website, the Frederick C. Murphy Federal Records Center holds the permanent records of federal agencies and courts located in the five New England states: Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. It also houses some federal military records pertaining to New England-based installations and units.
The center is part of the National Archives and Records Administration.
The current list does not include the Waltham site.
