City officials unfurled an organ donation banner at City Hall Thursday in celebration of National Donate Life Month. The commemoration comes at a time when the need for local organ donations is at an all-time high, according to New England Donor Services.

Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy, city councilors, members of the city’s Lions Club, and Waltham-based New England Donor Services were joined by organ transplant recipients to display the banner at City Hall.

Last month, New England Donor Services  reported a record-breaking 67 organ donors, resulting in 186 life-saving organs for transplant. The organization coordinated organ donations that resulted in 1,570 life-saving transplants in 2024.
