Waltham resident goes to the nation’s capital to advocate for seniors

Waltham’s Leland House resident Donna Ellis visited Washington, D.C., this past weekend with other local seniors and advocates from Brighton-based senior housing nonprofit 2Life Communities. The group made the trip to advocate for issues of critical importance to seniors.

The group included 2Life Communities Chief of Advocacy Emily Levine and residents from multiple 2Life campuses. They met with U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark, D-Mass., to discuss threats to Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

CORRECTION: The Waltham resident was mis-identified as Cissy Spear. Donna Ellis is the correct person.

They also spoke about the importance of the Affordable Housing Credit Improvement Act as well as the need to reinvigorate the Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program to help ensure all seniors can rely on options for safe, high-quality housing in their communities.
