Mayor’s fiscal 2026 budget nears $400 million

Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy earlier this week presented the proposed fiscal 2026 budget, which totals $392,006,055.

The figure is a 6.8% increase from the current year’s budget, McCarthy said while presenting the figures to City Council members at their Monday night meeting. 

McCarthy said major cost drivers include an $8.1 million increase for public education, $7.05 million more for medical insurance and $4.9 million in additional debt payments.

The budget now goes to the City Council’s Finance Committee for further review. 

Public hearings on the spending plan are scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, and Wednesday, June 4, both at 9:30 a.m.
