Public Safety Report: Multiple motor vehicle break-ins and larcenies reported

Residents along a cluster of streets reported a string of motor vehicle break-ins and larcenies, with nearly three dozen vehicles struck by criminals on May 17 between 2 a.m. and 5 a.m.

The crimes took place on Sherbourne Place, Trapelo Road, Woodchester Circle, Candlewood Street, Linden Park Drive and Vester Street. 

Four vehicles were stolen and 25 were broken into. Police recovered three of the stolen vehicles in Waltham, while police found the fourth in Lexington.

Police believe that the break-ins and stolen vehicles are connected and are investigating.

Cambridge woman arrested for assault and battery

Police arrested a Cambridge woman for assault and battery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon following an incident at a Winter Street hotel.

On May 16 at 9:20 p.m., police responded to a report of an alleged assault and battery at Embassy Suites at 550 Winter St. Hotel staff told police that Nayely Cruz, 23, of 160 Columbia St., Cambridge, had been loudly knocking on the doors of multiple rooms.

After a staff member told Cruz to stop and leave the premises, Cruz allegedly threw a cellphone at the staff member before punching her in the arms. At that point a witness intervened in the incident, preventing it from escalating further.

When officers arrived, Cruz screamed at them to arrest her.

A summary of police activity from May 16 to 22 is as follows:

On May 16 at 2:21 p.m., police responded to a report of identity theft at a Moody Street residence. Multiple online financial accounts were opened using the reporting party’s name. Officers gave the resident advice on how to handle the situation.

At 9:49 p.m. police responded to a report of gunshots near the area of the Metropolitan State Hospital at 475 Trapelo Road. Upon arrival, police determined that the noise came from teenagers using a toy cap gun. Police told the teens to leave the area.

On May 17 at 3:50 p.m., police responded to a report of a possible break-in near the site of the Metropolitan State Hospital at 475 Trapelo Road. The caller believed that a group of kids was trying to break into a building at the site. Police determined that they were just hanging out in the area and advised them to leave.

At 8:40 p.m. police responded to a report of possible gunshots on Christopher Road. Upon arrival, officers heard no noise in the area and determined that the sound may have come from nearby cars.

On May 18 at 10:11 a.m., police responded to a report of a motor vehicle hit-and-run near 336 Moody St. It was determined that a note was left on the reporting party’s car. The reporting party was given options for next steps in the reporting process.

At 9:42 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at Walgreens at 15 Main St. The reporting party’s AirPods had been lost in the store but were showing up on a tracking app at a different location. Officers located the lost item and returned it to the owner.

On May 19 at 10:32 p.m., police responded to a report of a larceny of a motor vehicle at Enterprise Rent-A-Car at 140 Moody St. A rented vehicle was 45 days overdue its return date and was reported stolen by employees. The vehicle was found abandoned later that day in Boston.

At 2:59 p.m. police responded to a past break-in at the Avalon Bear Hill apartments at 1449 Main St. On May 18 a man was seen breaking into the complex’s fitness center and stealing toiletries. The incident is under investigation.

At 3:38 p.m. police responded to a report of a larceny at a residence on Middlesex Road. The reporting party had fallen victim to an online job application scam and sent money to an individual over the internet. The victim was told that the application was a scam and was provided relevant resources by officers.

On May 20 at 8:26 a.m., police responded to a past assault and battery at 20 Middlesex Circle. A maintenance worker was allegedly struck in the chest by a resident who was upset about a parking issue. The worker was advised to pursue charges through Waltham District Court.

At 4:16 p.m., police responded to an assault at an address on Felton Street. The reporting party was punched in the face multiple times by another individual and was sent to the hospital for minor injuries. The incident is under investigation.

On May 21 at 1:34 a.m., police responded to a report of a lost 19-year-old man from a Crescent Street address. Police located the individual on May 23.

Samantha Gray, 31, homeless, was arrested at 2:58 a.m. on warrants for uttering a false instrument (for displaying a fake license plate), a suspended registration, a suspended license and leaving the scene of property damage. Gray was arrested after a resident reported that she was knocking on the doors of multiple homes near Prospect Street. The warrants are related to an incident on Nov. 13, 2024, where Gray allegedly struck another car on Prospect Street and left the scene.

At 9:42 p.m., police responded to a past break-in at a Ridge Lane residence. The resident reported that some personal property was stolen. The incident is under investigation.

Kelly Beauregard, 39, homeless, of Waltham, was arrested at 10:28 p.m. on a warrant for larceny of items worth under $1,200.

On May 22 at 1:01 a.m., police responded to a report of a disruptive group of people at Joco’s Bar & Kitchen at 450 Moody St. The group left without any further incident.

At 2:22 a.m. police responded to a report of property vandalism at Waku Waku Ramen at 456 Moody St. A vehicle owner’s tires had been slashed. The incident is under investigation.
