Community members gathered Monday at the Circle of Remembrance on Waltham Common for the city’s annual Memorial Day ceremony. The event paid tribute to the men and women who gave their lives in military service to the United States.

Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy and nearly all members of the Waltham City Council were present, alongside residents, veterans and local first responders.

The Waltham Police and Fire honor guards opened the ceremony with a formal presentation of the colors.

McCarthy was among the speakers who reflected on the significance of Memorial Day, emphasizing that it is not a celebration but a moment of solemn remembrance. They spoke of Waltham’s deep respect for military service and the community’s commitment to honoring the fallen with dignity and gratitude.

Several members of the clergy offered prayers and messages of unity, including Rabbi Benjamin Chaidell of Temple Beth Israel, the Rev. Michael Nolan of St. Mary’s Parish and the Rev. James M. DiPerri of Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Parish. Each shared words of hope, gratitude and reflection.

The ceremony closed with a wreath-laying, a moment of silence and the playing of taps.
