Liquor license approved for new taqueria

A taqueria set to open on Main Street will be able to serve alcohol, after the License Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved the transfer of a liquor license to the restaurant owners.
The owners, Mario Quinteros and Ana Cavazos, who own and operate Monarca Taqueria in Milford, plan to open their Waltham eatery at 663 Main St.
License Commission Chairman Wayne F. Brasco said the licence comes from Revelry Main LLC, which never used it or accumulated any back taxes.
This is a good thing, according to Brasco, who said a seller’s unpaid taxes would have blocked the transfer.
When the commission asked about a potential opening date, David L. Rubin, a lawyer representing the owners, said it would be contingent on obtaining a permit from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, the state’s regulatory body for the sale and possession of alcoholic beverages.
Under Massachusetts General Law, liquor licenses issued by local liquor licensing authorities must also be approved by the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission before they can be exercised.
The commission also transferred ownership of a common victualler license to the owners. This allows for the food and liquor sold by the restaurant to be consumed on its premises.
After the commission approved the transfer, Cavazos, previously a resident of Waltham for 25 years, expressed excitement for bringing her business to the city.
“Welcome to Waltham,” said Brasco. “We hope you prosper, and wish you well.”
