A traffic stop by Waltham police officers on July 26 led to the arrest of a Waltham man on numerous drug-related charges.

According to a press release, officers stopped Joseph Keane Jr., 36, homeless, of Waltham, at 6:15 p.m. in front of 577 Main St.

Officers allegedly saw Keane speed past multiple pedestrians on a motorized scooter on the sidewalk of Main Street near Lyman Street without wearing a helmet.

While placing him under arrest for negligent operation of a motor vehicle, officers searched Keane and allegedly found multiple weapons in his possession, including a pair of brass knuckles, a knife and a baton.

Officers also located more than $67,000 in cash along with a large collection of drugs, suspected to consist of Xanax, methamphetamine, cocaine, ketamine, gabapentin, clonazepam and promethazine.

Officers reported discovering more drugs, including marijuana and psilocybin, in Keane’s hotel room at Extended Stay America at 52 Fourth Ave. during a July 28 search.

Keane was later charged with multiple offenses for possession of class B, C, D, E and F drugs. Keane was also charged with carrying a dangerous weapon, negligent and unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and disorderly conduct.
