The week ahead: What’s on the docket for city meetings?
This August, many of the city’s bureaucratic bodies are still out on summer break. Some boards continue to meet over the summer, however. Here’s what’s on their plates for this week.
Zoning Board of Appeals
The ZBA is a five-person board charged with reviewing new and existing buildings that may violate the city’s zoning code.
The board has the power to grant project-specific variances to the code, overrule judgements made by the building inspector and grant specific types of special permit.
This week, the ZBA will be looking at only one new case, about the property at 16 Smart St., brought by the estate of Jeanette L. Rheaume. More information will be posted on the board’s page on the city website.
Its meeting will be held in person at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in the Arthur J. Clark Government Center at 119 School St.
Conservation Commission
The Conservation Commission is a volunteer board charged with overseeing environmental planning in Waltham. The commission reviews certain types of construction on or around wetlands to ensure it complies with the Wetlands Protection Act and the Department of Environmental Protection stormwater standards.
This week, it’s hearing two applications for construction: the maintenance of an artificial drainage system for Chapels Pond at Brandeis University and a porch construction for a house at 105 Riverview Ave.
The Conservation Commission meeting will be held over Zoom at 7 p.m. Thursday. A link for the meeting will be provided on the Commission’s page on the city website at least 48 hours before the meeting.
