Waltham man found dead off the coast of Maine

Officials are investigating after the body of Mark Metzger, 74, of Waltham, was recovered near Long Island Ledges off the coast of Maine on Sunday, according to authorities.

The Maine Marine Patrol said Metzger was reported missing around 11:40 a.m. after friends failed to find him aboard his 19-foot sailboat anchored on the western side of Bremen Long Island. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Coast Guard, Maine Forest Service, local emergency responders, and the Marine Patrol participated in the search.

Metzger’s body was located at about 1:30 p.m. by Good Samaritans and transported to shore by the Coast Guard, officials said. The body was released to a local funeral home and will be examined by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta.
