A brand-new ambulance has joined Armstrong Ambulance’s fleet, but this one carries more than advanced equipment and flashing lights. For the people of Waltham, it carries the memory of Mary Ann Vacherweill, a beloved EMT whose presence in the community was defined by her devotion to helping others.

The gleaming 2024 Type 3 box truck was recently dedicated to Vacherweill, who died in June after a brief battle with ovarian cancer.

Colleagues remembered her for her compassion, dedication and quiet strength, qualities that left a lasting mark on patients, coworkers and the community she served.

“Mary Ann embodied the best of EMS — always putting others first with grace and courage,” Armstrong officials said in a statement.

The new ambulance is part of Armstrong’s broader investment in upgraded vehicles and equipment for communities across the region. For Waltham, company leaders said, the truck also stands as a lasting memorial to Vacherweill’s service and sacrifice.

Her name, now emblazoned on the city’s newest lifesaving vehicle, ensures that her work and her spirit live on in every patient helped and every life saved.
