Marilyn Eagan, 1932–2025, loving mother and grandmother

Marilyn P. (Steede) Eagan, of Waltham, died Friday, Sept. 26 2025 in Waltham Crossings after an illness. She was 93.
Marilyn was born Jun. 7 1932 in Waltham, a daughter of the late Irish immigrants John and Catherine (Cullen) Steede. Raised and educated in Waltham, she graduated from Saint Mary’s High School with the class of 1950. She married Waltham Deputy Fire Chief Charles R. Eagan on Nov. 25 1951 in Saint Mary’s Church.
There is no love like that of a mother and Marilyn stayed at home to raise her six children. She later returned to work part-time once her children were grown.
She kept her mind and body active; she always had a book at hand to read and would walk daily. She and her husband spent many winters in Acapulco, and later made their home in Fort Myers, Florida.
In addition to her husband Charles, she was predeceased by her sons, Sean E. and Timothy M. Eagan; her siblings, Jean French, Kevin, Joseph, and David Steede; and her daughter-in-law, Mary F. (Murphy) Eagan. She leaves her children, Kevin C. Eagan (Beth) of Fort Meyers, Florida, Terence J. Eagan, Marilyn C. Lefort (Wayne), and Mary P. Eagan, all of Waltham; her grandchildren, Erica Ruggles (Andrew), Julie Eagan, Kevin Eagan (Debbie), Timothy Lefort (Elizabeth), and Stacey Jones (Michael); her step-grandchildren, Jaime Evans, Daniel Martel (Chrissy), and Carolyn Martel; her great-grandchildren, Teagan, Brynley, Ashlyn, Chase, Maddy, Lily, Alyssa, Cailey, Emmett, Austin, Ethan, Ben, and Jake; her brother, John Steede (Nancy) of Otis Field, Maine; and her nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Marilyn’s life by gathering in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rt. 20), Waltham on Saturday Oct. 4 for a morning wake from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. before leaving in procession to Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Feake Cemetery, Waltham.
