Nearly 2,000 people turned out for Saturday’s “No Kings” rally on Waltham Common, according to organizer Indivisible Waltham. Waltham’s rally was one of more than 2,600 locations across the U.S. and overseas to protest the actions and policies of the Trump administration. Major news outlets reported that with as many as 7 million participants, it was one of the largest single-day protests in American history.

Waltham protesters included people wearing inflatable chicken and dinosaur costumes. Similar inflatable animal costumes have become a hallmark of protesters in Portland, Oregon. Traffic congested the area around Main and Moody streets on Saturday morning, with passing cars and trucks honking in support.

“Boston held one of nine ‘anchor’ events across the country, so we knew attendance there was going to be massive and we wanted to offer an alternative for community members who might not be able to go into Boston,” said Elizabeth Hoffecker, a member of Indivisible Waltham. “We also think it’s really important to express our values in our own town common, to show that opposition to the Trump administration’s agenda is everywhere and to build connections locally.”

  1. I’m ashamed of Waltham. If you love America you should respect it’s duly elected President, Donald Trump. You may not like who the majority of Americans elected, but you should respect the office he holds and the majority who elected him. This protest looks like it was run by sore losers.

    • Funded by the devil himself, George Soros. They are blindly following the same person who hates America and wants open borders, and who paid for the bricks during the “summer of peace and love.” Delusional and embarrassing.

  2. I agree with these previous commenters! It would have been nice to include pics of how big the crowd actually was, and all the creative and so very accurate signs folks made. It was great to have been a part of it!

  3. I agree with the above commenters – great pictures but they don’t show how huge the crowd was. I have several photos that show more of the crowd. Also some VERY creative protest signs! Can I upload them to you?

  4. I was at another No Kings rally in MA, but am very proud of Waltham for showing up! I’m extremely impressed at the numbers in Waltham, major cities, and nationwide. Despite administration lies and exaggerations, there is no denying that millions rallied because we love our country–and there’s no telling how many more were supportive, but couldn’t come for various reasons. And participants weren’t taking the bait of “agitators” and other disruptions–the mood was serious yet joyful, determined, yet celebratory–and all was PEACEFUL. A superb exercise of our First Amendment rights!

  5. These photos do not due justice to this event. It would have been great to have photos that documented how large the crowd was! And capture the positive energy, the diversity and how many people from the community came out for this event. Missed opportunity.

  6. Those are great pics, but I don’t think they sufficiently convey the size of the crowd. It seemed larger than the previous No Kings protest a while back. It was an enjoyable event. Everyone seemed relaxed, even though the current administration gives us a LOT to be angry about. The brass band was entertaining. I don’t remember seeing any police there, nor were they needed.
