It has been a stellar season for the Brandeis University men’s soccer team, which is proving itself to be formidable against tough competition.

The Judges have surged to a 9-1-4 record, including an impressive 1-1 tie earned against second-ranked Emory University during the Homecoming 2025 contest on Oct. 11. The squad then followed that by going on the road and taking down a streaking University of Rochester team by a score of 2-1.

“It has been a lot of fun, and these guys have worked really hard,” Brandeis head coach Gabe Margolis said. “Overall, I am really proud of the results that they have earned and the way they have played.”

These performances have boosted the Judges all the way into the fifth spot in the Division III United Soccer Coaches poll.

The team has been accomplishing these feats in dramatic fashion, as well. Brandeis found itself down by a goal in the 79th minute of the game in New York last Saturday before senior Slater Loffredo knocked in a low shot to tie up the game. It only took 16 seconds for first-year player Langston Byrd to give his group a lead they would not relinquish.

The victory marked the Judges first University Athletic Association conference win of the year, providing them with some confidence as they head into a long slate of league games.

“It’s an incredibly fun conference to play in, and it’s also a really challenging conference,” Margolis said. “Every week you are playing against another top, top team. For us, that is why these guys came here. They want this. For us, it’s staying focused on what has allowed us to be successful.”

The team has relied on strong chemistry to carry them through. Senior goalkeeper Tyler Correnti has been staunch in net, silencing Case Western Reserve University with five saves to notch a 0-0 draw in the team’s most recent match. On the offensive end, senior Nico Beninda has led the unit in scoring with five goals.

“So much of it is how much they care about each other and how hard they work for each other,” Margolis said. “It is very real, and it has been a ton of fun to watch that part.”

This team belief was buoyed by the excellent showing against the tough Emory Eagles in front of a nice crowd in Waltham. The Judges sealed the tie with just 20 seconds remaining in the game when junior Keller Chamovitz converted off of an assist from classmate Maddox Yu.

“It was great,” Margolis said. “It was a really big week for us, and the guys did a great job. Getting to play against a top-10 team on homecoming and finding a way to earn a late draw was a ton of fun. It certainly showed the guys what they can accomplish when they put in the work and focus.”
