Waltham Lions Club Roadblock fundraiser to raise funds for Salvation Army on Nov. 7
The Waltham Lions Club will hold its annual Roadblock fundraiser on Friday, Nov. 7, from noon to 8 p.m. on Moody, Crescent and Pine streets.
With local families facing rising hardship this holiday season, Lions Club members, city officials and volunteers will collect donations throughout the day to support food assistance programs at the Salvation Army of Waltham. Lions Club members will be posted along Moody Street, accepting contributions from motorists and pedestrians to help neighbors in need.
Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy and several Waltham city councilors are expected to participate, joining club members to help raise awareness of the community’s needs and the Salvation Army’s work.
“Funds raised in our community stay in our community to help feed our neighbors right here in Waltham,” said Joe Giordano, president of the Waltham Lions Club. “We’re grateful for the continued generosity of our community and the partnership of city officials who make this event such a success each year.”
According to Captain Marsha Barter of the Salvation Army of Waltham, requests for food pantry assistance and HOPE kitchen meals have nearly doubled in recent weeks. “We are so grateful for the support of the Waltham community and the Lions,” Barter said. “The generosity of the public plays a vital role in bringing hope, comfort and joy to those who need our support.”
Residents and visitors are encouraged to stop by Moody Street during the fundraiser and help support Waltham families facing food insecurity.
