Donald Frost Jr, 1950–2026, retired Waltham firefighter

Donald Frost Jr, 1950–2026

Donald Joseph Frost Jr. “Frosty,” passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, March 14, 2026. He was 75.

Don was born Aug. 9, 1950, the son of the late Donald J. Frost and Carol S. Frost (Popp). A long time resident of Waltham, Don was known for his gregarious personality and unmistakable gift of gab. He loved telling stories and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, often leaving people with a new story to pass on. In his younger years, Don enjoyed dancing and was awarded the title Best Dancer of his senior class in 1968. Throughout his life he had a love of food, particularly a good steak – “rare as the chef would allow,” a cold Pepsi and Brighams Vanilla ice cream. He also enjoyed lively conversation and the music of Bruce Springsteen. Above all, he loved spending time with his friends and family reminiscing about the glory days.

Don proudly served his community as a member of the Waltham Fire Department for 27 years. In addition to his service at the fire department, he also drove his catering truck, Second Alarm Canteen, where his love of food and people came together. In his retirement years, Don was a driver for Patriot Taxi where he enjoyed doing airport runs, priding himself on the early morning shifts when he was up and everyone else was still in bed.

Don will be remembered for his smile, humor, big appetite, and most importantly his “great hair.” His friends and family will cherish the many stories he shared, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda Frost; and his sons, Donald J. Frost III and his wife Cindy Ferry of Little Compton, RI , and Matthew Frost of Waltham, MA. He was lovingly known as Papa to his granddaughters Lindsey, Kayla and Madison Frost, and his three great grandsons Sage, Theodore and Montgomery, who brought him great pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Charles Frost and his fiancé Sandra Anderson; Linda Riley and her husband William; and Lorry Connolly and her husband Paul. In addition to his immediate family, Don leaves many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are welcome to gather and celebrate Don’s life during visiting hours in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham, on Friday March 20 from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m., followed by the sharing of memories and concluding with Waltham Fire Department Honors in recognition of Don’s faithful service to the citizens of Waltham.
