8-year-old riding electric scooter seriously injured

An 8-year-old child was seriously injured Friday evening after being struck by a truck while riding an electric scooter in Waltham, authorities said.

Police and fire crews responded to Charles Street Avenue at approximately 5:46 p.m. on April 24 to a report of a crash involving a child on an electric scooter and a pickup truck. Upon arrival, first responders located the victim and transported the child to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the child had been riding an electric scooter at the time of the crash.

The Waltham Crash Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. According to a police press release, the team is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident to determine whether charges will be made against the pickup truck driver.
