Homecoming under bright skies

Waltham residents piled out of their houses to gather along Lexington and Bacon streets this past Saturday for the Homecoming Parade.

The Oct. 26 parade marked the return to Waltham of a longstanding school and community tradition, as the parade in past years had been on a hiatus.

Local companies lent their trucks, grills buffed and sparkling in the afternoon sun, as Waltham High School sports teams rode on the flatbeds, chanting and tossing treats into the crowd. Vintage convertibles joined the cavalcade with city officials perched atop the back seat, waving. 

The parade arrived at Leary Field, leaving glitter, balloons and candy in its wake. Waltham residents filled the bleachers to cheer on the Waltham Hawks football team, as it trounced the Newton South Lions 49-14. The Hawks made some notable plays on their way to the win: two interception returns for touchdowns, a punt return for a touchdown and a 29-yard touchdown run.
