The Nov. 5 election features several local races in addition to the presidential race, a U.S. Senate race and multiple ballot questions.
Those local races are for
- Councillor, 3rd District
- Senator in General Court
- Representative In General Court, 9th Middlesex District and 10th Middlesex District
- Clerk of Courts, Middlesex County
- Register of Deeds, Middlesex Southern District

The Waltham Times asked each candidate in these local races to respond to several questions, explaining that The Times would publish their responses as written. Six candidates responded in time for last week’s edition. You can see their responses here.
This past week The Times received responses from William “Billy” Tauro, of 333 Great River Road, Somerville, an independent running for Register of Deeds, Middlesex Southern District. Tauro is running against incumbent Maria C. Curtatone, of 37 Munroe St., Somerville, a Democrat, whose responses appeared in last week’s Waltham Times edition.

1. Please share a brief biography about yourself.
Born in Cambridge. Raised between Somerville and Cambridge most of my life along with four brothers learning the automotive trade from my father who was a legal immigrant. As I mateured I involved myself in business and real estate. Married for over 30 years, I am a father of two, grandfather of 9 and a current member of multiple ecclesiastic societies including the Lions Club where I served as eight terms as President. A fifteen year member of the distinguised Benevolent Jade Society. Served as a Past Master of Lodge, Member of the Lodge of Instruction, as well as the Eastern Star Chapter. Involved in multiple fundraising organizations and co hosted Veterans cruises for over ten years. Hosting elderly events for over thirty years. Co Publisher of The Somerville Medford Weekly News and the Boston News Group. Publisher of the Modern Cop Magazine, writer of the published book Stealing Somerville Death of an Urban City.
2. Please provide an explanation of this elected role and its key responsibilities.
The purpose of the Registrar of Deeds is to maintain accurate details of parcels of property as well as provide a public accessible service to access records for transactions and review. To protect the integrity of Deeds from defects and faults.
3. Please detail your priorities and what you hope to accomplish as an elected official.
4. Please detail how you plan to achieve those objectives. Note: Candidate provided a single response to the two questions..
If elected, my priorities are to provide a true and accurate accounting of all Deeds and transactions. I will provide an open door policy as I promote this by providing my personal contact information to all. I will treat all employees and customers with professionalism and respect. I will bring the backlog of interoffice workings reportedly over 10 years back up to current date. I will investigate and work with legal authorities to prosecute any wrongdoings. I will restore the trust and honesty to the office that should always be above reproach.
5. Please share why you believe you are the best candidate for this position.
I am a just and upright person who has morals and believes that honesty and respect should govern every elected office. I am very approachable and openminded. My past experience in my treating the Elderly, Veterans, Homeless, and all others should speak volumes. I am fair-minded and fully understand what the office requires. With my general experience over decades, I am the right choice for this position. Thank you for the opportunity.
