At last week’s City Council meeting, the council
- passed a resolution to find ways to minimize the impact of ongoing Lexington Street construction on nearby businesses and residents.
- passed a resolution that council members participate in the Salvation Army’s annual fundraiser, the Red Kettle Campaign, at Market Basket from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 13, 2024. “There’s more need in our community than ever. There’s over a thousand children that have signed up for toys. That’s 300 more than last year,” said Ward 8 Councilor Cathyann Harris.
- passed a resolution to recognize Small Business Saturday on Nov. 30. The resolution calls it a day to “celebrate the contributions of small businesses to our community and to encourage residents to shop locally, thereby fostering economic growth, job creation, and celebrate the community.”
- sent a resolution regarding the licensing of group homes in Waltham to the Ordinances & Rules Committee.
- heard a fuel storage license petition for 71 Border Road. The council referred the matter to the Licenses & Franchises Committee, which will address the petition at its next meeting on Monday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at City Hall.
- re-appointed Crystal Philpott for a three-year term as a purchasing agent for the city.
- approved a $6 million grant to the Waltham Boys & Girls Club for building restoration and repairs.
- approved a $1.3 million grant to the abatement of 240 Beaver St.
- continued the special permit hearing of the proposed new six-story hotel at 1265 Main St. to Jan. 27, 2025.
- continued the special permit hearing regarding 460 Totten Pond Road to Dec. 23.
