While hearings for National Grid road work dominated last Monday’s City Council meeting, many other important actions were taken. Here is a summary:
- Local business owner LaDonna Jackson took an important step in the journey of opening a brick-and-mortar location for her online antique jewelry store Finely Find It Vintage. Jackson petitioned the council for a secondhand dealer license. Many council members voiced their support for the endeavor. The petition will go before the Licenses and Franchises Committee on Monday, Dec. 16, for further action.
- The council heard a resolution (right) regarding the processes to obtain a special permit modification from the Zoning Board of Appeals. The resolution aims to better define what counts as a ‘“minor modification”’ and what needs to be fully re-permitted. This issue has recently been the focus of discussion at multiple Ordinances and Rules Committee meetings. The council referred the resolution to the Ordinances and Rules Committee for further recommendations.
- The council appointed Robert J. Waters to serve as planning director for a three-year term.
- The council re-appointed City Clerk Joseph Vizard for a second three-year term.
- The council accepted a $26,600 donation for the Waltham Council on Aging from the estate of Antoinette M. Tambascia, who died in August at the age of 101.
- The council approved a grant of location for Eversource to install approximately 12 feet of conduit at Baldwin Road.
