Moody Street was transformed into a kaleidoscope of vivid colors and swirls of humanity as dozens of gleaming automobiles lined the street, drawing hundreds of spectators on Saturday afternoon. Classic, custom and specialty vehicles were parked at an angle on both sides of the street, each one polished by its proud owner to a high sheen and many with their hoods flung open to expose the mechanical innards.
Moody Street was closed to traffic for the afternoon between Pine and High streets, as hundreds of spectators strolled along, taking photos, peering under the hoods and admiring the upholstery.
Restaurants and bars were filled with visitors stopping in to rest and order cold drinks and snacks.
Local dignitaries, including Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy, state Rep. John Lawn and several city councilors were seen in the crowd throughout the afternoon, posing for photos and chatting with residents.
On her Facebook page, Ward 8 Councilor Cathyann Harris thanked the volunteers and sponsors, including the Waltham Chamber of Commerce, Village Bank, Glenna Gelineau, Eagle Glass, Connors & Connors Law, Tempo, the Downtown Waltham Partnership, Councilor-at-large Randall J. LeBlanc, Ward 3 Councilor Bill Hanley, Ward 9 Councilor Robert G. Logan and state Rep. John Lawn.
