Volunteer needed to foster special cats

The Cat Connection is searching for a few “extraordinary volunteers” who would be willing to foster a shy or undersocialized adult cat for a longer-term stay — likely several months.
“This isn’t a traditional foster role,” the Waltham-based nonprofit said. “These cats may initially avoid interaction, prefer not to be touched and require a long, quiet decompression period before they feel safe enough to take small steps forward. Success here isn’t measured in cuddles right away. It’s measured in patience, thoughtful encouragement, and celebrating small milestones as trust slowly grows.”
They are seeking volunteers who have experience with shy or undersocialized cats, or at least a clear, realistic understanding of what this work looks like.
- Has a safe, low-traffic space — a quiet, closed room where the cat can decompress without stress.
- Is patient, consistent, and willing to try different approaches, understanding that building trust takes time, creativity and lots of small, respectful interactions.
- May have a chill, confident resident cat. While having an existing pet is not required for every foster situation, some of these shy cats adjust and blossom much faster with a friendly, confident feline role model to help show them the ropes.
- Can commit long-term (think months, not weeks).
Volunteers who think they can provide this type of quiet support should contact: Taline1177@gmail.com.
