In February 2023, several WLT volunteer stewards formed Save Waltham Wildlife after a beloved local eagle died from eating a rat that had consumed rodenticide.
Since then, SWW has held meetings and lobbied officials to take steps to reduce the need for and use of poisons that also have deadly effects on raptors, foxes, and even outdoor pets. We’ve had successes (Big Belly trash receptacles and the city’s pledge to stop using poison on its properties), but there is more to be done.
In this online forum, we’ll hear about SWWs victories, learn about effective alternatives to second generation anti-coagulant rodenticides, and help strategize on ways to expand SWW’s efforts moving forward. Waltham’s threatened wild creatures need us all to become informed and to take a stand.
