SUMMARY:Danielle Mckinney: Beyond the Brushstroke
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special event with Danielle Mckinney\, the Rose Art Museum’s Perlmutter Artist-in-Residence\, in conjunction with her first solo museum exhibition “Danielle Mckinney: Tell Me More.” The artist\, in conversation with Rose director and chief curator Dr. Gannit Ankori\, will lead a tour of the show\, exploring her jewel-like paintings of Black women within intimate and beautiful interiors. This volume brings 50 of her paintings into conversation with journal prompts written by her mother\, educator Barbara Mckinney\, and includes space for the readers’ self-reflections. Books will be available for purchase at the Rose Art Museum\, offering a chance to bring home a unique extension of Mckinney’s art and vision. \nRegistration is recommended. \n

SUMMARY:In Conversation: Hannah Levy [Virtual Program]
DESCRIPTION:“I like to create objects that look like furniture\, or are furniture-like\, and have these anthropomorphic or bodily elements. Placing familiar forms into another context leads to a heightened awareness of ourselves and how we interact with the world.” \nArtist Hannah Levy merges organic and industrial materials to craft visceral hybrid sculptures that evoke human or animal forms\, fashion\, and medical apparatuses. In conversation with Henry and Lois Foster Director and Chief Curator Dr. Gannit Ankori\, Levy will explore how her practice complicates everyday objects into uncanny encounters\, inviting viewers to reexamine the relationship between the body and human-made environments.
