DESCRIPTION:Inspired by the intimate paintings in “Jenna Gribbon: Entwined\,” this participatory drawing workshop invites friends\, partners\, loved ones\, and even new acquaintances to explore the shared experience of seeing and being seen. Through a series of playful drawing exercises\, participants will alternate between artist and subject. Inspired by Gribbon’s own use of snapshots on her cell phone to crop and compose her paintings\, several exercises will also incorporate participants’ phones as creative tools for framing\, seeing\, and drawing from unexpected perspectives. \nLed by artist Ariel Freiberg\, the workshop is open to adults of all skill levels\, and all drawing materials will be provided. Bring someone special or come on your own. Solo participants will be paired with others\, making this a welcoming opportunity to meet new people while experiencing Gribbon’s exhibition in a fresh and meaningful way. \nSpace is limited to 20 participants\, and advance registration is encouraged.

DESCRIPTION:The 3rd annual Newton Children’s Book Festival will showcase more than 100 authors and illustrators of children’s and young adult books. Attendees can meet the creators\, have books signed\, and purchase books from the festival’s organizing partner\, the Toadstool Bookshops. You’ll design either a heart or round mosaic mirror from a wide selection of materials including millefiori\, beads\, recycled jewelry and glass. To make your mosaic unique\, bring pieces of costume jewelry that are special to you to incorporate into the mosaic. Whether you create intricate designs or simple patterns\, your finished mosaic will be beautiful and unique. \nPlease be sure to register ahead of time!

For picture frames\, small frames will be supplied; if you would like to make a larger frame\, please feel free to bring your own. For jewelry\, pendant bases\, rings\, bracelets and earring blanks will be provided. Also available will be glass\, china\, beads\, jewels and bling to create a unique creation. \nNo previous experience is required\, but registration is! Please indicate whether you would like to make a frame or jewelry on the registration form.
