SUMMARY:'Elaborate Procedures' — An evening of films and poems by Derek Jenkins & Eugenia Zuroski
DESCRIPTION:AgX is pleased to present “Elaborate Procedures\,” an evening of films and poems by Hamilton\, Ontario-based artists Derek Jenkins and Eugenia Zuroski. \nThrough simple procedures – observing\, writing\, filming – both artists open up unexpected ways of relating to the world. Rather than treating the camera as a tool for documentation\, Jenkins approaches filmmaking as a relational practice\, using flowers\, landscapes\, and shared acts of image-making to foster connections between people. Zuroski’s poems likewise begin with close observation\, weaving the natural world and everyday life into incisive reflections on language\, history\, and the systemic structures that shape our experience. Together\, their works create a thoughtful dialogue on how we inhabit\, perceive\, and remember the world around us. \nThe screening will be followed by an in-person conversation with Jenkins and Zuroski. Programmed and moderated by AgX member Lilan Yang. \nThis screening is free with a suggested donation of $5 – $20.

SUMMARY:'ReFrame' — Sculpture at the Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:“ReFrame” brings together the work of Adria Arch\, Olivia Baldwin\, Tory Fair\, Anna Kristina Göransson\, and Kate Holcomb Hale\, five artists with deep ties to Arlington whose practices share a restless relationship with sculptural convention. Shown in the Mill’s historic upper rooms\, close to the spaces where frames were crafted by hand\, the work spills across walls and floors\, refusing the categories that would hold it still. \nEach artist will display large-scale pieces alongside smaller works for sale\, with proceeds supporting The Old Schwamb Mill.\nThe exhibition runs September 12 to November 14\, with an opening reception on Saturday\, September 26\, 2–3:30 p.m.\, a panel discussion on Saturday\, October 24\, 2–3 p.m.\, and a closing reception on Saturday\, November 14. \nThe Old Schwamb Mill is normally open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for guided tours of the Mill and art gallery viewing.

SUMMARY:In Conversation: Jenna Gribbon [Virtual Program]
DESCRIPTION:The people closest to Jenna Gribbon have become the enduring subjects of her paintings\, but likeness is only the beginning. In this virtual conversation\, the artist will be joined by The New Yorker staff writer Naomi Fry to reflect on the ideas\, relationships\, and philosophical questions that have shaped Gribbon’s practice\, on the occasion of her first museum survey\, “Jenna Gribbon: Entwined.” \nTogether\, they will explore Gribbon’s distinctive approach to painting\, the collaborative nature of her portraits\, and the ways in which her work challenges conventional notions of representation\, intimacy\, and observation. Spanning the artist’s career while looking toward its future\, the conversation offers a rare opportunity to hear Gribbon discuss the evolution of her practice\, her creative process\, and the enduring concerns that continue to inform her work. \nAudience members will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q&A following the discussion.
