SUMMARY:Danielle Mckinney: Beyond the Brushstroke
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special event with Danielle Mckinney\, the Rose Art Museum’s Perlmutter Artist-in-Residence\, in conjunction with her first solo museum exhibition “Danielle Mckinney: Tell Me More.” The artist\, in conversation with Rose director and chief curator Dr. Gannit Ankori\, will lead a tour of the show\, exploring her jewel-like paintings of Black women within intimate and beautiful interiors. As the artist herself has said: “Each canvas is a portal—a place where I explore the soul\, the self\, and what it means to be free within one’s own space.” \nAfter the walkthrough\, stay for a book launch of Mckinney’s debut book\, “Danielle Mckinney: Beyond the Brushstroke” (Phaidon). This volume brings 50 of her paintings into conversation with journal prompts written by her mother\, educator Barbara Mckinney\, and includes space for the readers’ self-reflections. Books will be available for purchase at the Rose Art Museum\, offering a chance to bring home a unique extension of Mckinney’s art and vision. \nRegistration is recommended. \n
