DESCRIPTION:For journalists covering the Middle East\, the years after 9/11 brought new wars\, growing risks\, and profound changes in the practice of reporting. In the second Crown Center event examining the long-term consequences of 9/11 for the U.S. and the region\, a panel will consider how that era changed journalism – and how it continues to shape the way the Middle East is reported on and understood today. \nNeil Swidey\, professor of the practice and director of the Journalism Program at Brandeis University\, will moderate the forum. An award-winning narrative journalist and bestselling author\, he is also editor at large of The Boston Globe Magazine. \nPanelists \n\n\nHannah Allam is a national security reporter at ProPublica and a former Baghdad and Cairo bureau chief for McClatchy. She was part of two Pulitzer Prize-winning teams at The Washington Post\, and her Middle East reporting has been recognized with George Polk and Overseas Press Club awards. \n\n\n\n\nC.J. Chivers is a writer at large for The New York Times Magazine and a longtime foreign correspondent. A two-time Pulitzer Prize winner\, he has reported on conflicts across the Middle East\, Central Asia\, Africa\, the former Soviet Union\, and Ukraine. \n\n\nThe events are organized in conjunction with Sohrabi and Swidey’s “The Road to September 11th and Beyond: History and Media” course that examines the lead up to and consequences of 9/11 for the Middle East and U.S. media. \nRapaporte Treasure Hall and online \nRegister here for webinar access.
