DESCRIPTION:From cooking meals to operating a factory loom\, laborers made the Lyman family’s life on a grand estate possible. \nHundreds of workers were employed in occupations like gardeners\, maids\, and farm hands during the Lyman Estate’s 150+ years of operation. Thousands more held positions in industries that helped the family prosper financially\, like the textile mills in Waltham and Holyoke that the Lymans invested in. Explore the working-class history of the Lyman Estate and visit areas of the house not usually on view during this new specialty tour. \nMember $15; Nonmember $20. \nPlease call 617-994-5912 for more information. \nThis tour will also be offered on August 16\, September 20\, October 18 and November 15. \nAccessibility considerations: Tour involves four floors of stairs. There is a ramp for access to the first floor but the estate has not been equipped with ramps\, elevators\, or chair lifts to reach the other floors. Visitors are welcome to sit on the reproduction furniture in the house and service animals are welcome. We are happy to work with you to make your visit an enjoyable one and we encourage visitors with questions or requests to call ahead. \n

SUMMARY:Mothers & daughters "girls night out:" Special screening of “Are You There God? It’s Me\, Margaret."
DESCRIPTION:“Are You There God? It’s Me\, Margaret.” was first published over 50 years ago but Judy Blume’s story of an 11-year-old girl and the book’s themes of friendship\, family\, self-identity\, puberty and growing up remain relevant in today’s world. \nWellgirl enthusiastically invites mothers (or grandmothers\, or aunties\, or any other caregiver or mentor) and daughters to a unique and unforgettable girls’ evening of sharing stories and screening the 2023 (and only) movie adaptation at the Embassy Theater in Waltham. We’ll watch the film\, stir up stories and encourage conversations\, and have several free raffle items to give away! A mother/daughter discussion guide will be included for you to use or take with you. Suggested age 10–14 years old\, and all girls must be accompanied by an adult caregiver. \nTickets are $35 per mother/daughter pair and can be purchased here. \nThe movie is hosted by wellgirl\, a local-to-Waltham girls’ wellness community offering programs and products that support and empower girls (mostly tweens) toward feelings of wellness\, from the inside out. To learn more about wellgirl and the programs we offer (both in-person and self-paced)\, start here by finding a link or getting on our email list.
