SUMMARY:Waltham Land Trust's Western Greenway 5k & first ever Monster Dash for kids!
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Halloween by taking to the trails in your costume (if it’s safe to do so) and help raise money for the Waltham Land Trust in a super fun\, family-friendly way! \nSince 2013\, the Waltham Land Trust has held the Western Greenway 5K walk and run benefit event where people of all ages traverse a 5K distance through the Western Greenway. Help preserve open space in Waltham while enjoying one of the properties maintained by WLT’s trail stewards for everyone to enjoy. \nThe 5K (3.1 mile) course goes through and around a variety of habitats in Beaver Brook North Reservation and Rock Meadow\, including cattail marshes\, forests\, vernal pools\, and open meadows. This year’s race route is new for 2025! \nBefore the main race kicks off\, kids ages 10 and under can join our 50-yard Monster Dash at 11:30 a.m.\, a quick\, fun sprint where every child gets a small treat for participating. Free for children who attend with an adult running the 5K\, $5 suggested donation otherwise. Perfect for little ghosts and goblins who want in on the action!

SUMMARY:Mindful Moments with "Danielle Mckinney: Tell Me More"
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a guided meditation series at the Rose Art Museum inspired by the exhibition “Danielle Mckinney: Tell Me More.” Mckinney describes her sumptuous paintings as portals to explore the self\, the soul\, and freedom within one’s own space. \nLed by Kien Le\, these 30-minute meditations will focus on the concept of rest\, as articulated by the artist’s words: “I’ve never seen Black women resting in paintings\, so it’s really beautiful.” “For me\, silence is something I really value a lot\, that ability to slow down.” “Art was my safe place.” \nSpace is limited to 15 participants.

SUMMARY:Solving the healthcare crisis: A single-payer model for Massachusetts
DESCRIPTION:Healthcare costs continue to balloon\, far exceeding growth in wages\, income\, and inflation and placing an unsustainable burden on residents\, employers and cities and towns. Total healthcare costs in Massachusetts surged 8.6% in 2023\, reaching over $71 billion\, far exceeding the 3.6% annual benchmark goal set by the state. The state has outstripped the benchmark for the last five years. The average annual premium for employer-sponsored coverage for families in Mass is $26\,355. More than 40% of Massachusetts residents struggle to pay for healthcare while access to care declines. More than half of Massachusetts hospitals are operating in the red. \nCome hear about the options for a more sustainable\, effective\, compassionate and equitable system. We already spend more than enough to get the job done. \nThis event is sponsored by MassCare\, a coalition of over 100 member organizations advocating for a universal\, single-payer healthcare system in Massachusetts. They work to pass legislation that would establish a publicly financed system\, free of out-of-pocket costs at the point of care. They are supporting H. 1405 S. 860 An Act Establishing Medicare for all in Massachusetts. \n

SUMMARY:ICE out of Waltham march
DESCRIPTION:Please join our upcoming march: “ICE out of Waltham!” Together\, we’ll stand against the harm ICE has caused in our community and demand a city where all our neighbors are safe and free. \nWe’ll gather at the Waltham District Courthouse and march to Waltham Common. We’ll also hold a community vigil honoring those taken from us by this unjust and authoritarian system. \nIf you’ve been directly impacted by ICE—or if you’re simply outraged by what’s happening—this is your moment to show up\, speak out\, and take space. ICE is not welcome in Waltham! \nAfter the vigil\, we’ll share next steps for local organizing\, mutual aid opportunities\, and ongoing actions—because the march is just the beginning.
