SUMMARY:'Elaborate Procedures' — An evening of films and poems by Derek Jenkins & Eugenia Zuroski
DESCRIPTION:AgX is pleased to present “Elaborate Procedures\,” an evening of films and poems by Hamilton\, Ontario-based artists Derek Jenkins and Eugenia Zuroski. \nThrough simple procedures – observing\, writing\, filming – both artists open up unexpected ways of relating to the world. Rather than treating the camera as a tool for documentation\, Jenkins approaches filmmaking as a relational practice\, using flowers\, landscapes\, and shared acts of image-making to foster connections between people. Zuroski’s poems likewise begin with close observation\, weaving the natural world and everyday life into incisive reflections on language\, history\, and the systemic structures that shape our experience. Together\, their works create a thoughtful dialogue on how we inhabit\, perceive\, and remember the world around us. \nThe screening will be followed by an in-person conversation with Jenkins and Zuroski. Programmed and moderated by AgX member Lilan Yang. \nThis screening is free with a suggested donation of $5 – $20.

SUMMARY:Blue Collar 101: Commercial Fishing and the Maritime Trades
DESCRIPTION:This is part of a recurring series of events\, each spotlighting a different trade or type of industrial work \n\n\n\n\nWhat actually happens to keep our coastal waters\, working waterfronts\, and marine supply chains running every single day? Who navigates the commercial fishing vessels\, maintains our complex marine infrastructure\, builds our heavy waterfront structures\, and trains the next generation of maritime leaders? \nFor the fourth session of Blue Collar 101\, we’re bringing together workers and industry experts from across the Commonwealth’s commercial fishing and maritime sector. Representatives from the commercial fishing industry\, maritime higher education\, marine trade associations\, and heavy marine construction will walk us through what the job actually looks like: the operational mechanics\, the rigorous safety protocols\, the seasonal demands\, and the career pathways into this vital ocean workforce. \nThis is a panel conversation for the general public and those curious about the skilled labor that keeps our coastal infrastructure functioning.
