SUMMARY:Three Minute Thesis Competition
DESCRIPTION:Graduate students at Brandeis University will have an opportunity to show their skills at presenting their original research in a short\, engaging form for a general audience during the 5th annual Three Minute Thesis Competition.\nTen students from a variety of disciplines will compete in front of a panel of judges including Waltham Mayor Jeannette McCarthy. All 10 will receive cash awards ranging from $300 to $1\,000\, according to organizers Marika McCann\, associate director of professional development and employer outreach in Office of Graduate Affairs\, and Abigail Arnold\, assistant director for graduate academic affairs.\nThe winner will be invited to participate in a regional competition and\, potentially\, a national one.\nThe event also features an audience award in which members of the audience can vote for their favorite presentation.\nMcCann likened the presentations to Ted Talks. For students steeped in the language of academic disciplines\, mastering a public speaking style requires considerable effort and practice\, she said.

SUMMARY:Cross-campus tour: C. Rose Smith and Danielle Mckinney
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an inspiring afternoon of art and exploration across Brandeis University! Begin your journey at the Kniznick Gallery with an artist-guided tour of “C. Rose Smith: A Silent Rage.” The exhibition brings together Smith’s arresting black-and-white photographs taken on location at Southern plantations and Northern textile mills\, both sites complicit in the economy of slavery. By inhabiting the preserved living spaces of enslavers\, Smith inserts their body in scenes dominated by whiteness and predatory industry. As both maker and subject\, Smith reclaims and memorializes the formerly enslaved. \nFrom there\, we’ll walk together to the Rose Art Museum and discuss highlights from “Danielle Mckinney: Tell Me More\,” an exhibition of sumptuous\, meditative paintings that explore Black womanhood\, illuminating resilience\, beauty\, and autonomy. Mckinney offers a bold and transformative vision of leisure\, pleasure\, and the rhythmic rituals of the everyday\, viewed through a female gaze. Attendees will also have the opportunity to view the Rose’s other fall exhibition\, “Fred Wilson: Reflections and Fabricated Imaginaries.” \nRegister now.

SUMMARY:Fred Wilson: Reflections
DESCRIPTION:“Fred Wilson: Reflections” is the artist’s first museum survey in over a decade\, showcasing his influential practice of reframing cultural narratives to expose hidden biases and challenge assumptions about history\, race\, and identity. The exhibition features his evocative black-and-white Murano glass chandeliers and mirrors\, flag-inspired paintings addressing the African diaspora\, and the debut of “Black Now!”\, a large-scale conceptual installation of found objects exploring Blackness as both color and concept. \nThrough beauty\, symbolism\, and critical reflection\, Wilson invites viewers to reconsider cultural memory\, colonial legacies\, and the invisible forces that shape our understanding of the world. \nAt Brandeis University’s Rose Art Museum in the Lois Foster Wing through January 4\, 2026. \nThis exhibition is supported in part by Pace Gallery.
