SUMMARY:Waltham Forward neighborhood walk-a-thon (Return to the Bleachery)
DESCRIPTION:Waltham’s next regular municipal Election Day is Tuesday\, November 2\, 2027\, so from March 2026 to October 2027 I plan to walk to-and-thru every neighborhood in Waltham at least once as part of a 20 month Waltham Forward Neighborhood Walk-a-thon. A key part of this walk-a-thon is that it will be in person\, in real life\, and (mostly) offline! \nRSVP @ WalthamForward.com/Walk. \nFor this second event\, I am going to return to the Bleachery (the neighborhood on the east side of town\, north of the river but south of Main Street). We will start in the Shaw’s parking lot (the end by the foot bridge over the Charles river) between 10:45 and 11:00 a.m. before making our way toward Lowell Field Park (zig-zagging along the neighborhood streets south of the park). \nThe Purpose of the Walk \nAs we walk\, we will document potential infrastructure improvements\, obvious accessibility issues\, and likely safety concerns that ought to be addressed by the city. \nWe will also share a petition about the city website’s lack of ADA compliance\, and — more importantly — we will be on a listening tour to get to know our neighbors better.

SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Annual Duck Walk along the Charles
DESCRIPTION:CANCELLED DUE TO POOR PATH CONDITION \nJoin the Waltham Land Trust for a walk along the Charles River trail in search of dazzling waterfowl visiting from northern climes\, as well as our resident birds. Possible sightings include bufflehead\, ring-necked\, and goldeneye ducks\, hooded and common mergansers\, great blue herons\, red-tailed hawks\, and bald eagles! Bring cameras and binoculars. \nDress for the weather. The walk will be postponed in very cold temperatures\, if precipitation is falling\, or if the path is too icy. Children and families are welcome! Dogs are not allowed as they tend to scare away birds. Cosponsored with Brookline Bird Club and Menotomy Bird Club. \nRegistration required\, space is limited. Meeting location will be emailed closer to the date of the event.

SUMMARY:New Year's Day hikes at Prospect Hill Park
DESCRIPTION:Start off the new year with a hike up Prospect Hill to an amazing view during one of the Waltham Land Trust’s most popular events! Please note that there are TWO different departure times and locations. \nFolks wanting a longer hike on various paths through the park should leave from Craft Food Hall at 200 5th Ave at 12:30 p.m. Those seeking a shorter trek either along the paved (not plowed) service road or via steep trails should depart at 1 p.m. from the park’s South Gate near 186 Prospect Hill Road. Park on roads in the neighborhood and be mindful of driveways and “No Parking” signs. Please carpool if possible. \nRegardless of where you leave from\, be prepared to walk on slippery paths that may have rocks\, roots\, and challenging terrain. Both groups will meet at the accessible vista point of Little Prospect for fabulous views of Waltham below and Boston in the distance. \nDress for the weather; cancelled in very cold temperatures or if precipitation is falling. Well-mannered\, leashed dogs are welcome.

SUMMARY:Beaver Brook North hike
DESCRIPTION:Join WLT Board Director Debbie von Rechenberg for an adaptive hike around Beaver Brook North. The length and spots we’ll visit will be determined by the group\, but it’s likely we’ll stop at the Met Fern Cemetery. Children and well-behaved dogs welcome. \nThe hike will be 1 to 3 miles long\, depending on group consensus; we might split into 2 groups\, with Debbie’s husband Moritz leading the second group. We will stick to the main paths\, but those include dirt trails with exposed rocks and tree roots and at least a slight elevation change. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes with good treads. Please have your well-behaved dogs on short leashes. \nRegistration not required \nPark/meet at Waltham Dog Ranch\, use 475 Trapelo Road in GPS.
