SUMMARY:Film screening: 'One Sings\, the Other Doesn't'
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a screening of Agnès Varda’s beloved feminist classic “One Sings\, the Other Doesn’t” (1977)\, a joyful celebration of friendship\, love\, motherhood\, and the freedom to define one’s own life. The film has been a lasting source of inspiration for Jenna Gribbon\, who has said\, “Agnès Varda is probably my biggest influence outside of painting.” Like Varda\, Gribbon finds beauty in everyday relationships\, revealing the quiet intimacy\, tenderness\, and complexity of shared lives. \nPresented in conjunction with “Jenna Gribbon: Entwined\,” the screening will be introduced by Brandeis Professor Sophia Niehaus. Following the film\, Niehaus will be joined by “Entwined” co-curator Chad Sirois for a conversation exploring the rich connections between Varda’s groundbreaking cinema and Gribbon’s paintings\, inviting audiences to discover how two visionary artists reimagine family\, intimacy\, caregiving\, and the transformative power of love. \nPlease register to confirm a seat.

You will learn about six generations of the Jones family living in this house for 200 years and the unique role that the tavern and Isaac Jones played during the Revolutionary War—including the visits from British spies\, Paul Revere’s men and a Weston Tea Party. Experience life as it was lived in the colonial era—our museum is filled with hundreds of artifacts that belonged to the Jones family. \nYou can also visit our 2026 exhibit “Lost Liberties – Broken Promises\,” a yearlong exhibit focusing on the enslaved\, indigenous\, displaced Loyalists\, and veterans of Weston who were on the wrong side of history. \nThis exhibit is sponsored by Mass Humanities and the Massachusetts Cultural Council. \nThursday Tours admissions. Members: Always free! General admission: $15\, Senior (65+): $12\, Under 18: Free.

SUMMARY:'ReFrame' — Sculpture at the Old Schwamb Mill
DESCRIPTION:“ReFrame” brings together the work of Adria Arch\, Olivia Baldwin\, Tory Fair\, Anna Kristina Göransson\, and Kate Holcomb Hale\, five artists with deep ties to Arlington whose practices share a restless relationship with sculptural convention. Shown in the Mill’s historic upper rooms\, close to the spaces where frames were crafted by hand\, the work spills across walls and floors\, refusing the categories that would hold it still. \nEach artist will display large-scale pieces alongside smaller works for sale\, with proceeds supporting The Old Schwamb Mill.\nThe exhibition runs September 12 to November 14\, with an opening reception on Saturday\, September 26\, 2–3:30 p.m.\, a panel discussion on Saturday\, October 24\, 2–3 p.m.\, and a closing reception on Saturday\, November 14. \nThe Old Schwamb Mill is normally open on Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for guided tours of the Mill and art gallery viewing.
