SUMMARY:"A Bountiful Musical Source - The Morris Hollender 100th Birthday Concert"
DESCRIPTION:Temple Beth Israel of Waltham will present “A Bountiful Musical Source – The Morris Hollender 100th Birthday Concert.” Directed by Dr. Hankus Netsky\, co-chair of New England Conservatory’s Contemporary Musical Arts Program and founder and director of the Klezmer Conservatory Band\, the concert will also feature Rabbi Jessica Kate Meyer\, violinist; vocalist Eden Macadam-Somer; and clarinetist Itay Dayan. \nThe concert honors the musical and spiritual legacy of the late Morris Hollender\, Temple Beth Israel’s long-time baal-tefile (lay religious leader) and Torah reader\, who passed away in 2014. An Auschwitz concentration camp survivor\, Mr. Hollender came to the Boston area from Czechoslovakia in 1967. The program will feature melodies that Mr. Hollender learned as a child in the Munkacs region of Eastern Czechoslovakia (now Ukraine) and that he shared generously with TBI members and others during his time in the U.S. His repertoire has become a major pillar of the contemporary international resurgence of Eastern European Jewish musical culture\, and his legacy is honored in a permanent exhibit at the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst\, MA. This year marks the hundredth anniversary of Mr. Hollender’s birth. \nTickets and more information are available at this link.

SUMMARY:2nd Shift Concert: Laura Cantrell
DESCRIPTION:Ever since her debut album “Not The Tremblin’ Kind” dropped 25 years ago\, country singer Laura Cantrell has been perfecting her own sparkling blend of Americana music. Cantrell’s songs are delivered in a voice both honest and unadorned\, and her version of country music is imbued with the buoyant catchiness of classic pop and rock ‘n’ roll. \nIn addition to singing her own songs everywhere from Prairie Home Companion to The Grand Ole Opry\, Cantrell hosts Dark Horse Radio\, a show devoted to the music of George Harrison on SiriusXM’s The Beatles Channel. \nCantrell embodies the conviction of a modern woman singing country music\, and we can’t think of a better way to close out our spring 2025 season. \nDoors at 7:30 p.m. \n
