SUMMARY:Café Meet and Mingle: Bi+ community edition
DESCRIPTION:Hoping to connect with other bi+ people over coffee and conversation? Join Friends Beyond Boston–Waltham Social (20s–40s) for a relaxed and friendly coffee social in Waltham. Whether you’re looking to meet new people\, build meaningful friendships\, or simply spend some time with others who understand the bi+ experience\, this is a welcoming space to connect. \nThis edition of our popular series is for anyone who identifies under the bi+ umbrella\, including bisexual\, pansexual\, fluid\, queer-identified\, unlabeled\, questioning\, and anyone who experiences attraction to more than one gender (M-spec identities). Whether you’re out and proud\, quietly exploring\, or still figuring things out\, you’re welcome here. Show up as you are. This event is about warmth\, belonging\, and meeting others who truly understand the bi+ experience. \nPlease support the café by making a purchase\, as we are using their space. \nBecause bi-erasure and biphobia are common issues in broader queer spaces\, we maintain a zero-tolerance policy for bi-erasing or biphobic comments\, to help keep this a safe and supportive environment for everyone. This is in line with our group’s general respect and inclusion guidelines. \nPlease note: This is an event for members of this community group who RSVP in advance. For safety and group flow\, walk-ins and guests not on the RSVP list cannot join. We love meeting new people\, just be sure to RSVP ahead of time so we know you’re coming.

SUMMARY:Western Greenway 5K Trail Run/Walk and Kids' Monster Dash
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Halloween with a spooktacular day on the trails! The Waltham Land Trust invites you to celebrate Halloween in the best way possible — moving through nature\, in costume (if it’s safe to run in)\, and helping protect Waltham’s beautiful open spaces by participating in our annual Western Greenway 5K Trail Run/Walk. \nThe course goes through a variety of habitats in Beaver Brook North Reservation\, which will most likely have gorgeous foliage to enjoy along the way! Participants will also travel by historic sites like the MetFern Cemetery. \nBefore the main race kicks off\, kids ages 10 and under can join our 50-yard Monster Dash at 11:30 am — a fun sprint where every child gets a small treat for participating. Free for children who attend with an adult running the 5K\, $5 suggested donation otherwise. Perfect for little ghosts and goblins who want in on the action. \nThe 5K starts at noon. We’ll have tons of prizes for top finishers in various age groups\, plus extras to give to lucky bib numbers the week after the race\, so everyone who registers has a chance to win! Learn more and sign up here: walthamlandtrust.org/western-greenway-5k \nFree t-shirts for the first 100 registrants. Don’t forget to join us at our lead sponsor Mighty Squirrel’s Waltham Taproom for a complimentary post-race beverage. \nWant to run with your friends? Sign up together under one team name. Register today.

SUMMARY:Close Looking: Jenna Gribbon and the Erotics of Play
DESCRIPTION:Spend an hour in the galleries with Brandeis Professor Brian Horton for a close look at intimacy\, play\, and desire in Jenna Gribbon: Entwined. \nFocusing on works including Night swimming wrestlers (2018) and 3AM Haircut (2018)\, Horton will consider the thin line between homosocial play and eroticism in Gribbon’s paintings\, and the ways friendship\, attraction\, performance\, and spectatorship overlap within a single image. Through an informal\, discussion-based session in the exhibition space\, participants will explore how Gribbon invites viewers into scenes that feel at once private and shared\, and how those shifting boundaries shape the experience of looking.

SUMMARY:MetWinds Fall Concert: ‘There’s a First Time for Everything’
DESCRIPTION:MetWinds opens its 56th season of Greater Boston region concerts with a program built entirely around beginnings. “There’s a First Time for Everything” celebrates the debut works of some of the concert band repertoire’s most significant voices\, including John Mackey\, Frank Ticheli\, and Dana Wilson\, each represented by the very first piece they wrote or arranged for band. The program also resounds to Gustav Holst’s “First Suite in E-flat\,” the piece widely credited with establishing symphonic bands as a serious concert ensemble\, marking their place alongside orchestras. Fittingly\, the afternoon also marks a first of its own — the inaugural performance led by MetWinds’ new music director\, Gabe Southard. \n“There’s a First Time for Everything” features repertoire including Adam Gorb’s “Awayday\,” Holst’s “First Suite in E-flat for Military Band” (edited by Colin Matthews)\, John Mackey’s “Strange Humors\,” Dana Wilson’s “Piece of Mind\,” John Stevens’ “Benediction\,” and Frank Ticheli’s “Postcard.”
