DESCRIPTION:In “Case 137” a criminal investigation takes a personal turn when a police officer in the internal affairs unit in Paris is assigned to a case involving a young man severely wounded during a tense and chaotic demonstration in Paris. Nominated for the Palme d’or at the Cannes Film Festival and by the director of “The Night of the 12th\,” which swept the Cesar Awards in 2023. \nSpeakers: Leonard Kesten\, regarded as one of the state’s leading authorities on alleged police misconduct and a founding partner at BHPK Law\, and Jack Zanini\, a retired prosecutor who served as Legal Counsel and Chief of Appeals at Suffolk (Boston) and as First Assistant District Attorney at Plymouth\, who has participated in many reviews of police use of force investigations\, including death cases. \n“Case 137” will screen as part of Belmont World Film’s 24th International Film Series\, “Thicker than water\,” exploring the ties that bind—and sometimes limit us—through an intimate and far-reaching collection of stories about families in all their complexity. Across cultures and continents\, these films ask what we inherit\, what we carry\, and what we owe one another. \nThe series unfolds over eight consecutive Mondays at the West Newton Cinema.
