SUMMARY:Brandeis Wind Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Registration is requested here. Doors open at 6:45 pm.\n\n\n\n\nThe Brandeis Wind Ensemble will celebrate Gustav Holst’s 150th birthday with a performance of his Moorside Suite. Written in 1928\, six years before he died\, the work is a mature culmination of his folk song influenced style. \nAlfred Reed’s Fifth Suite for Band is a collection in four movements of original melodies with an international flair: The American “Hoedown\,” French “Sarabande\,” Japanese “Yamabushi Kagura\,” and a spirited Israeli “Hora.” \nAakash Mittal’s Salt March is a tribute to Mohandas K. Gandhi’s historical protest and the music of that moment. In the spring of 1930\, Gandhi began a non-violent protest of British colonialism that challenged unjust laws that gave Britain a monopoly on salt production. Omar Thomas’ arrangement of the folk song Shenandoah is at times mysterious\, somewhat ominous\, constantly introspective\, and deeply soulful. \nThomas Souza\, conductor.
