SUMMARY:New Year's Day hikes at Prospect Hill Park
DESCRIPTION:Start off the new year with a hike up Prospect Hill to an amazing view during one of the Waltham Land Trust’s most popular events! Please note that there are TWO different departure times and locations. \nFolks wanting a longer hike on various paths through the park should leave from Craft Food Hall at 200 5th Ave at 12:30 p.m. Those seeking a shorter trek either along the paved (not plowed) service road or via steep trails should depart at 1 p.m. from the park’s South Gate near 186 Prospect Hill Road. Park on roads in the neighborhood and be mindful of driveways and “No Parking” signs. Please carpool if possible. \nRegardless of where you leave from\, be prepared to walk on slippery paths that may have rocks\, roots\, and challenging terrain. Both groups will meet at the accessible vista point of Little Prospect for fabulous views of Waltham below and Boston in the distance. \nDress for the weather; cancelled in very cold temperatures or if precipitation is falling. Well-mannered\, leashed dogs are welcome.

SUMMARY:Beaver Brook North hike
DESCRIPTION:Join WLT Board Director Debbie von Rechenberg for an adaptive hike around Beaver Brook North. The length and spots we’ll visit will be determined by the group\, but it’s likely we’ll stop at the Met Fern Cemetery. Children and well-behaved dogs welcome. \nThe hike will be 1 to 3 miles long\, depending on group consensus; we might split into 2 groups\, with Debbie’s husband Moritz leading the second group. We will stick to the main paths\, but those include dirt trails with exposed rocks and tree roots and at least a slight elevation change. Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes with good treads. Please have your well-behaved dogs on short leashes. \nRegistration not required \nPark/meet at Waltham Dog Ranch\, use 475 Trapelo Road in GPS.

SUMMARY:Waltham Land Trust 26th annual meeting
DESCRIPTION:Every fall\, the Waltham Land Trust board of directors holds a public meeting where updates are provided on issues we’ve been tackling\, where one wonderful person is honored as our Inge Uhlir Environmentalist of the Year\, where returning and new board members are voted on\, and where a presentation on an important environmental subject is provided. This year we are thrilled to welcome professors from Brandeis who have been collecting oral histories from Walthamites about flooding in our city. \nSome may say that the highlight each year happens when the meeting ends and attendees gather to chat with each other over complimentary Toscanini’s ice cream! Come see for yourself.
