Waltham City Council’s Committee of the Whole voted to transfer the care, custody and control of Field Station at 240 Beaver St. to the city’s Recreation Department.

The transfer raises questions about the future status of the site’s current tenants.

At-large Councilor Colleen Bradley-MacArthur voiced concerns about the uncertainty for those tenants, including the Waltham Fields Community Farm. WFCF has worked on the land for around 30 years.

The Committee of the Whole voted 9-2 in favor of the transfer, with Bradley-MacArthur and Ward 9 Councilor Robert G. Logan voting against it.

Mayor Jeannette A. McCarthy responded that private licensees, including the farm, will be able to bid on surplus space that the Recreation Department does not use.

CORRECTION: Colleen Bradley-MacArthur was described as Ward 7 Councilor. She is a councilor at large. The current Ward 7 Councilor is Paul Katz.
