Man shot on Main Street; police search for suspect

Waltham police are investigating a shooting that left one man injured near 913 Main St. shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.
Officers initially responded to 49 Rich St., a multifamily home off Main Street, for a report of suspicious activity, according to police and fire dispatch recordings. According to the radio dispatch, four men answered the door, all four were armed, and one man, wearing a Celtics jersey, left on foot toward the end of Rich Street, while the three others got into an unknown vehicle.
Police later found a man on the ground near 913 Main St. with what dispatch recordings described as one, possibly two, gunshot wounds to his lower abdomen. He was taken to a hospital, which was not identified. His condition was not known Sunday night.
A be-on-the-lookout alert was issued for a suspect described as a tall, thin white man wearing a gray or blue shirt and riding a black stand-up scooter. Officers secured part of Rich Street with crime scene tape as the investigation continued.
Waltham Police said just after 7 p.m. that the investigation was under active investigation by Waltham PD detectives. “We believe this was not a random incident. We do not believe there is any risk to the public,” according to the WPD statement.
No arrest has been announced.

As a Waltham resident, I am strongly concerned. I would hope that, in the future, we could prevent any further incidents such as this from occurring.
