Waltham Girl Scouts visit the Statehouse

Five members of Waltham’s Girl Scouts Troop 64769 enjoyed a tour of the Massachusetts Statehouse on April 9 by Rep. Thomas M. Stanley.
Rosie Blouin, Brianne Fintzel, Raven Fintzel, Casey LeBlanc and Ruby Neville, students at the city’s Plympton and Fitzgerald elementary schools, were introduced as leaders of the future to members of the Legislature. They received a standing ovation as they began their tour.
The girls viewed memorial paintings, statues of prominent Waltham historical figures and other Statehouse highlights.
Then came the highlight of their day — visiting Gov. Maura Healey in her office. Healey encouraged the girls to explore the office, and each sat in the governor’s chair and posed for a photograph.
Healey told the girls that she had been a Brownie and added, “I hope some of you will get the opportunity to become governor, too.”
She encouraged them in their fundraising for good causes.
“We saw this as an opportunity for these intelligent, inspiring girls to be introduced to how their government works,” said Janet Sutherland, one of the troop’s leaders.
“We have a duty to educate and develop future generations, so I was thrilled to facilitate this tour,” said Stanley.
