Waltham man convicted in 2020 stabbing

A Waltham man was convicted on charges for the fatal stabbing of 61-year-old Kevin Fitzgerald that took place on the night of Oct. 31, 2020, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Jonathan Galindo, 38, of 17 Prospect St., Waltham, was found guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated burglary on June 2 at Middlesex Superior Court. Galindo’s sentencing is scheduled for July 15.
According to a press release issued by the Middlesex District Attorney’s office, Waltham Police officers found Fitzgerald bleeding near the entrance of his home on Alder Street after responding to a 911 call he placed around 9:15 p.m.on Oct. 31, 2020. On the scene, Fitzgerald told police that the perpetrator had worn a costume Ninja mask. Fitzgerald was sent to Newton-Wellesley Hospital, where he was declared dead at 10 p.m. An autopsy found multiple stab wounds on Fitzgerald’s body, including a fatal one to the chest that had punctured his lung.
Investigators found footprints in the snow going toward the home’s back door. Inside, they located a knife and blood. On Nov. 4, 2020, fingerprints on the back door and DNA on the knife were identified as a match to Galindo, who was a past roommate of Fitzgerald’s.
When Galindo’s apartment was searched, a black mask was found in his closet. Location data on his phone showed that it was at Fitzgerald’s home at the time of the stabbing. Multiple searches for recent reports of stabbings in Waltham were found in Galindo’s search history. He was subsequently arrested by the Waltham Police Department on Nov. 8, 2020.
