Western Greenway 5K returns Oct. 26; registration closes Thursday

The Waltham Land Trust’s annual Western Greenway 5K returns Sunday, Oct. 26, offering runners and walkers a scenic 3.1-mile course through Beaver Brook North Reservation and Rock Meadow. The event will begin at noon near the McLaughlin Building on Metropolitan Parkway North, with the much-anticipated 50-yard Monster Dash for kids ages 10 and younger at 11:30 a.m. Kids can take part in the Monster Dash for free if accompanied by an adult participating in the 5K or for a $5 suggested donation.
Participants can enjoy the fall foliage and explore a mix of habitats, including cattail marshes, forests, vernal pools and open meadows. The 5K is open to both competitive runners and those who prefer a leisurely pace. All proceeds from the event will support the Waltham Land Trust’s mission to promote, protect, restore and acquire open space in Waltham.
Online registration closes at midnight on Thursday, Oct. 23; in-person sign-ups will be accepted during advanced bib pickup or on race day, though a $5 late registration fee applies. The first 100 runners to register will receive free event T-shirts. Advanced bib pickup is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 25, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Mighty Squirrel Brewing. Participants can also collect bibs at the registration tent on race day, but early arrival is encouraged. Race fees are nonrefundable.
Organizers are seeking volunteers for tasks such as checking the race route and handing out water and snacks. Interested individuals can contact Anna Richardson at arichardson@walthamlandtrust.org. Costumes are welcome, provided they are safe for running.
The Waltham Times is a media sponsor of this event.
